Goals

The science of ecology is critical to human and planetary welfare. This course will expose you to some of what ecologists know and how we will learn more.

  • You will learn the concepts that underlie modern ecology.
  • You will see examples of research that illustrate these concepts.
  • You will come to understand how ecologists go about solving ecological questions.

Necessary background

  • A first-year level introduction to biology.
  • Basic calculus. (We will use derivatives to describe rates of change in ecological variables such as population size and species diversity.)
