ECOL 496J/596J --Plant Population Ecology (1-3 units)
Description: The goal of the class is to give students a broad understanding of the diversity of adaptations of plants including adaptations for growth, reproduction, defense and niche specializations.

We will read and discuss Plant and Planet by Anthony Huxley, which is packed with facts about plant natural history from the accumulated knowledge of the great 19th century naturalists to more current discoveries.  We will also check the veracity of many of these "facts" to separate misleading lore from confirmed biology.  We will also read recent papers investigating our current understanding of selected topics.
