General Catalog Course Descriptions: ECOL 181R -- Introductory Biology I (3-4 units)Description:
Introduction to the cell and its properties, basic genetics, the immune
system, recombinant DNA technology with illustrations from bacteria,
plants, animals and humans. Honors section available for 4 units. All 181R students are encouraged to attend a discussion session that accompanies their lecture hour: If blocked from registration contact course administrator at 621-9267. ECOL 181L -- Introductory Biology Laboratory I (1 unit)Description: Laboratory exercises presenting techniques and fundamental principles of modern biology. Designed to complement the information concurrently presented in 181R. ECOL 182 -- Introductory Biology II (4-6 units)Description: Origin, diversity and evolution of life; physiology of plants, animals and organ systems; processes of micro and macroevolution; animal behavior and ecology of populations and communities emphasizing biotic interactions and biogeography. Designed for biology majors. LEC 40H is offered for 6 units, and has an additional meeting time for Honors students. Grading: Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E. Special course fee required: $10. Course includes 1 or more field trips. Prerequisite(s): at least Level III placement on the Math Readiness Test, high school biology recommended. Typical structure: 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Identical to: MCB 182, BIOC 182, MIC 182. Usually offered: Spring. |
