A position description must be drafted and posted for a minimum of 5 days. Once a candidate is selected, before an offer is made, the department must conduct standard pre-employment screening which entails verification of academic credentials, relevant licenses or certifications, work history and job performance. If the position is considered to be security sensitive, then a criminal background check must also be completed. For more information on recruitment and pre-employment policies, see the HR website's page on Recruitment and Hiring. New Hire Steps for Classified Staff (pdf file; UA HR website) Hiring Affiliates, Associates and Volunteers:For persons with external funding (not paid through the UA system), appropriate paperwork must be filed to gain access to specified UA systems. These visitors and researchers are given the title of Associate and receive an Employee I.D. number. Associates are then eligible for UA email privileges, library privileges, bookstore and event ticket discounts, and they may purchase a CatCard, parking pass and a campus recreation membership during the period in which they are in active status. The CatCard is required before an Associate can receive keys. Please contact Amanda Burke at 621-7509 if you have questions about obtaining Associate status for an externally-funded post-doc, a colleague here on sabbatical, a visiting scholar, or any other guest. Volunteers do not have direct access to University services, but the department may obtain Net IDs and email accounts for them if needed. In any case, the UA employee responsible for a volunteer should fill out a Volunteer Service Agreement Form (MS Word, PDF) and sign it, then have the volunteer sign it. The responsible UA employee should keep a copy for their files and give the original to Lilian Schwartz in the EEB Business Office. For more information of Affiliates, Associates and Volunteers, see the HR guidelines: HR Guidelines:
