The University of Arizona Fish Collection
includes more than 12,000 lots representing over 950 species and approximately
175,000 specimens. There are over 2,300 cataloged collections, the earliest
of which was made in 1925 and the most recent in 1998. However, the majority
of the collections (ca 75%) were made between 1964 and 1978. The geographic
coverage of the Fish Collection is primarily the Tropical Eastern Pacific,
especially the Gulf of California. Another significant element is freshwater
fishes from Arizona and northwestern Mexico. The Fish Collection is curated
by Dr. Donald A. Thomson and Dr. Peter N. Reinthal, and is housed on
the main campus of the University of Arizona in Biological Sciences East
room 2. Questions concerning the collection should be directed to: Dr. Peter Reinthal History of the University of Arizona Fish Collection |
