ECOL 182 (Spring - 2006) Intoductory Biology - Lecture List, Practice Questions, Handouts and Course Information

I'll be slowly updating the web site as I begin lecturing in the course.

****Note the study resources at the bottom of the page****

A couple of quick notes:

Actual content of the lectures is determined by where I STOP in each class each day, not by how many slides I place on the handouts / powerpoint slides before the lecture. I will always explain clearly (in class) where in the lectures you are responsible for recalling for the exam.

If you email me, please, please put "ECOL 182 - (then a title)" in the subject heading of your email. If you don't, then I'll likely miss the message.

LECTURES (updated as I go)

Lecture 1 - evolution of photoautotrophy

Lecture 1 - summary and discussion

Lecture 2 - evolution of photoautotrophy, important aspects of plant evolution and diversity

Lecture 2 - summary and discussion

Lecture 3 - important aspects of plant evolution and start of plant diversity

Lecture 3 - summary and discussion

Lecture 4 - important aspects of plant evolution and start of plant diversity

Lecture 4 - summary and discussion

Lecture 5 - Plant evolution and diversity - the seed plants (and some functional biology)

Lecture 6 - Plant form and function

Lecture 7 - Plant form and function II

Lecture 8 - Nutrients and ecosystems

STUDY RESOURCES

I'll have more here eventually, but consider these links to past resources (from last year). Of course there may be some material from that section we did not cover in this year's version. However, it is still helpful to see the way that I write questions and the logic I use.

2005 Study guide

In the 2005 Study Guide - the information from Lecture #6 - we havent' gotten there yet. However, we will cover most of what is in lecture 4 and 5 by the exam (but I will point out to you in class to where you are responsible)

2005 Sample questions

Note that we haven't covered the material for the last example question, but you probably knew the answer anyway from the lectures to date.

2005 Frequently missed questions (from the multiple choice section)

Note that the questions labled 24-26 are really good candidates for short answer or type questions (or imagine drawing that tree I keep telling you about).

Here are the sample 'fill in the blank' questions I promised:
