RESEARCH
INTERESTS
-
My
main research interests are evolutionary genetics and cytogenetics
of speciation. My previous research was focused on chromosomal variation
in the western European house mouse, Mus
domesticus. In particular, I studied a unique case of Robertsonian
polymorphism in which mice showed karyotypic variation, with hybrids
between a standard 2n=40 all-acrocentric karyotypic race and an unknown
Robertsonian race with a reduced diploid number. This study was conducted
from a multidisciplinary approach: biology of reproduction, morphological
variation, and behavior. An additional research interest of mine is
the study of circadian rhythms, applied to behavioral evolution and
to clinical research of hypertension. At present, my postdoctoral research
is focused on the genetic basis for the origin of new species, using
the house mouse as a model. I am studying genes involved in reproductive
isolation in a hybrid zone between two related species of house mice
(Mus).
