Openings

We are looking for graduate students, post-docs , and a research associate engineer interested in working on Amazon forest projects (interaction between vegetation dynamics and biogeochemical cycling using ground-based sampling, eddy covariance data, and remote sensing), or on the whole-ecosystem methane cycling project (focusing both on field deployment in Abisko, Sweden, and inside Biosphere 2 outside of Tucson).

We are currently seeking to fill several positions by Summer of 2010:

  • Post-doctoral scientists for research in carbon cycle science/atmospheric chemistry/ecology:
    • post-doc for a project to understand subarctic methane cycling (see project proposal, "Genes, isotopes, and ecosystem biogeochemistry: dissecting methane flux at the leading edge of global change"). Apply at the UofA career track website, job number 44956.
    • Two post-docs for the Amazon-PIRE project (apply online here):
      • Experimental studies to give insight into the future of Amazon forests by investigating effects of drought and light on tropical tree seedling recruitment, with manipulations conducted both in the field and in the model tropical forest of U. of Arizona’s unique Biosphere 2 facility (www.b2science.org).  Backgrounds in ecology, physiology, or ecohydrology desired.
      • Observational studies aimed at scaling photosynthesis from leaf traits to landscapes, integrating leaf-scale ecophysiology, ecosystem-scale fluxes, and remote sensing (from both tower-mounted automated multi-spectral cameras, and from satellites) to understand forest phenology and interannual variation across the Amazon.  Strong quantitative and programming skills required.
  • Biosphere 2 Associate engineer for design of instrumentation for field-based atmospheric and ecosystem measurements (for work inside Biosphere 2 and for field deployments in artic Sweden and the tropical Amazon). Apply at the UofA career track website, job number 44952.

We are accepting applications for these positions now (as of early 2010).

Beyond these ideas, if you are interested in working in my research group, please contact me. I am always happy to discuss potential research projects.
