Faculty Small Grants Program, Fall 2005

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies, and Economic Development and the University of Arizona Foundation continue to support the Faculty Small Grants Program. Awards of up to $10,000 are made on a competitive basis for projects involving research or other creative scholarly activity. The Program is intended to provide short-term, one-time support that will jump start worthwhile projects and result in data or work products that can be used in developing major proposals for submission to extramural funding agencies or private contributors.

Employees holding faculty rank, an appointment in the research scientist series of titles, or continuing or continuing-eligible status in a research or other creative scholarly capacity are eligible to apply. First priority for funding is given to new junior-level employees in the categories eligible to apply. Second priority for funding is given to other employees in the categories eligible to apply who are initiating new directions in their research or other creative scholarly activity.

The Faculty Small Grants Program does not fund graduate assistantships, publication costs, travel (unless an integral part of the project objectives), general-purpose equipment, or summer salary. Items such as short-term hourly student wages, travel to collections, general operations, supplies, musical scores, art supplies, and specialized research equipment pertaining to the project will be considered.

Fall 2005 proposals are due in the Office of the Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies, and Economic Development, 601 Administration Building, by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 14, 2005. Submitted proposals will be forwarded to peer-review panels composed of colleagues from related disciplines.

An investigator may submit only one proposal during any review period and is eligible to receive only one award within a four-year period. One copy of your proposal is required. The proposal (with 1" margins around and in type no smaller than 11 point) must include: a cover page, a budget page with justification, and a list of all current research/creative scholarly activity support, and no more than two additional pages describing the project and its objectives. A curriculum vitae of no more than two pages must also be included. Proposals that do not adhere to these stated format and page limitations will not be reviewed. Instructions, a sample proposal, and the "official" cover and budget pages are available at the VPR website.
