2005 Grad Handbook: Doctor of Philosophy Program |
Qualifying ExaminationAs part of its first meeting, the Guidance Committee gives the student a Qualifying Exam that consists of an evaluation of the student's background, research interests and course needs. The examination serves to identify strengths and weaknesses in the student's background and to set requirements for increasing proficiency in weak areas. The committee generally sets course requirements, especially when deficiencies are noted. The report on the Qualifying Examination must be signed by the Temporary Graduate Advisor and the Department Head and given to the Graduate Coordinator. |
