As of 11/24/03 we've replaced the original N17(severe jamming problems),
with a new one.
You will want to connect to the new printer name: N17_305.
If you have a previous desktop printer icon for the old printer N17_BSW305, you
will need to trash it as it no longer works.
Here are the steps needed to set up and print to the Xerox N17 over the net from all recent Macs running System 8, 9 or X in BSW or LSS. It is a B&W native Postscript 3 printer and should do well with native Mac files as well as pdf docs, etc. It prints at a true 600 dpi, has a duplexer and can print multiple pages on a single sheet
For Mac OS 8 9 or X- on the Mac you want to print from:
1. OS 8 or 9 -> Chooser -> Appleshare -> select
Shiva (the Mac running OS X in BSW316, with the correct PPD installer files)
OS X -> Go -> Connect to Server -> select
Shiva
OS X - 10.3 -> Go -> Connect to Server ->
Server Address = afp://128.196.198.195
2. Connect as guest -> select/open the Kneen folder
3. Be sure to read the EEB Printer notes, which has the details - briefly, here are the steps:
4. For Mac OS 9 and OS X copy the Xerox Legacy ppd installer to your desktop
and run it
This will place the correct ppd files in your printer preferences folder. Mac
OS 8 needs the actual ppd file copied to your machine
5. OS 8 or 9 ->Back to Chooser -> LaserWriter8 -> select the
N17_305 printer -> click
Create button
OS X -> Open Print Center (in Applications -> Utilities folder) -> Add -> Select N17_305 (Appletalk)
OS X - 10.3 ->as above, but when Adding, select the Appletalk protocol and the Local Zone.
6. OS 8 or 9 -> Click the Select button in the ensuing popup dialog box to avoid using
the Generic ppd file
Select the Docuprint N17.PPD file -> click Select button.
OS X -> Select Model -> Xerox ->
Docuprint N17 (you may have to close and reopen Print Center for the N17 ppd
to be seen)
OS X - 10.3 ->As above, but pull down the Printer Model scroll bar and select Xerox and then the N17 (ppd file).
All going well, this will install the printer driver and create a desktop printer icon for the Xeros N17. Immediately open that icon and pull down the Printing menu option to Change Setup. Select Installed for both the Duplex Module (double sided printing) and for Tray 2 (added 500 sheet tray).
When you print to it, note the options available from the pull down bar in the print dialog box, particularly the Layout option to avoid surprises when printing.
