PC Setup for Xerox N17 in BSW 305 (updated
02/03/04)
Here are the steps needed to set up and print to the Xerox N17 over the net
from all PC's running Windows XP/2000/NT on campus. It is a B&W native Postscript
3 printer and should do well with regular Windows files as well as pdf docs,
etc. It prints at a true 600 dpi and can print multiple pages on a single sheet
as well as on both sides.
*** Note that you
should have an EEB domain account, and the machine you want to print from must
be able to logon to the domain. Nick can set either of these up for you - call
621-1446 or kneen@email.arizona.edu
Windows NT/2000/XP Setup
From the PC you want to print from - assuming you have logged onto the EEB domain:
First - if you had a previous connection to the Xerox N17 make certain
to delete it as it will not work (Start-> Settings-> Printers)
for Windows 2000\Windows XP:
open Windows Explorer (Win-E keys)-> dbl. click My Network Places Icon-> dbl.
click Entire Network-> dbl. click M.S. Windows Network -> dbl. click
EEB -> dbl.
click Athlon700-> click the Printers folder-> rt. click the N17_BSW305
printer icon and select Connect. The printer icon should show in your Print
dialog boxes
and be usable.
When you print to it, select
the Properties button from the print dialog box to select
page orientation, duplexing and page layout options.
for Windows NT: open Windows
Explorer (Win-E keys) dbl. click Network Neighborhood ->
Then dbl. click Athlon700 -> dbl. click the Printer_Drivers folder->
in the right hand pane --> rt. click winntadb.exe and
copy this file to a temp folder on your machine and run it from there (This
is a WinZip self extracting file) -> select OK -> select Unzip -> select
OK to the UnZip message after it unpacks
The Adobe PostScript installer then starts. Choose Next -> Accept
(the license) -> select Network Printer; Next -> select Browse
Dbl. click Microsoft Windows Network -> dbl. click EEB ->dbl. click
Athlon700 -> select N17_305, click OK -> Next
An Error message prompts you to clk Yes to install the driver ->
clk Browse and navigate to the (defauylt) C:\temp\winntadb folder -> dbl
clk this folder -> select Xerox DocuPrint N17 in left pane and select
OK -> select
Next
Select Yes or No for default printer and No for print test page; Next
-> select Install
Select Next to configure the printer -> scroll down to Installable

This should install the (Windows capable) PostScript printer driver and create
a desktop printer icon for the Xerox N17. When you print to it, select
the Properties (or Advanced) button from the print dialog box to select
page orientation, duplexing and page layout options.
