Talk Abstract The marine unicellular cyanobacteria Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus are the most abundant primary producers on the planet and are responsible for a significant portion of the carbon fixed on global scales. Their viruses are also abundant and function in roles well beyond being simple agents of mortality. I will present our current understanding of oceanic cyanobacterial viruses in the context of a story of the high-stakes, global-scale evolutionary give-and-take with their hosts. |
