Title: The emerging multitrophic diversity maintenance theory |
Abstract: My lab has been working on extensions to species coexistence theory that treat predation on equivalent terms to competition. Although both interactions have long been recognized to have important effects on the ability of species to coexist, there has been a tendency to view them asymmetrically. Our symmetrical treatment of predation and competition opens up a new world of possibilities where the role of the whole foodweb in the coexistence of species in a given trophic level can be assessed.
