----------------------------------

The University of Arizona is a large institution, with 35,000 students supported by 12,000 faculty and staff. While it’s easy to feel lost in the crowd, the University’s large size also means you have every resource you might need to successfully navigate your way to graduation. The first and most important resources available to you are the academic advisors in your home department. While a student at UA, you will have contact with one main advisor, who will help guide you through the process and warn you of hurdles you might not see coming. You should see your departmental advisor at least once a year.

Although academic advisors help you determine your academic requirements and what policies are important, keep in mind that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for knowing the policies that pertain to you. These official policies can be found at http://catalog.arizona.edu/2011-12/. If you are uncertain about a University policy, make an appointment to see your advisor. Remember, “Nobody told me” is not a valid excuse.

Advisor responsibilities (what we do)

Advisee responsibilities (what you do)

Keeping you on track toward graduation requires preparedness on both the advisor’s and the student’s part. We prepare for every appointment by looking at your records and progress beforehand; you should do the same by knowing what questions you want to ask, reviewing your advisement report, and coming to your appointment prepared to take notes on the plan we develop together.
