Robert Carter Scholarship in Life Sciences

The Robert Carter Scholarship in Life Sciences was established to support undergraduates pursuing a degree in five life science majors.

Value: One $3,000 award made bi-annually. Renewable for a second year as long as recipient maintains eligibility.

Cycle: Bi-Annual, unless prior recipient graduates or otherwise forfeits eligibility for second year’s award.

Eligibility: Eligible candidate shall be an undergraduate student majoring in any one of the following: Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, Chemistry, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Biology, or Molecular & Cellular Biology. The student must be at least a junior, but not a senior, by Fall 2007 and have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 earned at the University of Arizona. The student must be a resident of Arizona. Award is renewable for up to two years or when said student completes his/her degree program, whichever comes first. Scholarship renewal is contingent on the student maintaining a 3.4 cumulative GPA and completing 24 units during the academic year and progressing toward a degree in one of the above mentioned majors.

Selection Process: Candidates will submit applications to the College of Science scholarship committee every other Spring of the upcoming academic award year starting Spring 2006. The student must also submit a personal statement and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or academic advisor. Preference shall be given to a student involved in an undergraduate research experience. Should there be two equally qualified scholarship candidates, preference shall be given to the one with the greatest financial need.

Notification: All applicants will be notified of the outcome by mid-May.
