Grade Replacement Opportunity

Grade Replacement Opportunity (GRO) offers students the ability to replace grades of C, D, and E by repeating the course.  Only the grade from the repeat attempt will be used to calculate the grade point average.  Only undergraduate students who have attempted fewer than 60 University of Arizona credits are eligible for GRO.  A total of 3 courses, not to exceed a maximum of 10 semester hours, may be repeated under GRO.

Students attempting a GRO should register for the intended course as usual and then complete the GRO form.  The form should then be returned to the Administration Building, room 210, by the set deadline for that semester.

For more information, you can refer to the GRO policy in the academic catalog or the Office of the Registrar website.

Repeating a Course
Students who are not eligible for GRO may be able to repeat a course. An undergraduate or graduate student may attempt the same course at the University no more than twice, whether the student completes the course with a passing or failing grade or whether the student audits, withdraws or is administratively dropped from the course.

Original grades of A or B may not be repeated, except as specifically provided by departments on a course-by-course basis.  When a completed course with a passing or failing grade is repeated without use of the GRO, the cumulative GPA will reflect the grades earned in both the first and second attempts. Credit will be applied only once to the degree program, unless the course is designated repeatable for credit by the department.

For more information, you can refer to the Repeating a Course policy in the academic catalog.
