VAN DE VERDE UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP IN SCIENCE

The Van de Verde Undergraduate Research Scholarship in Science is funded by an endowment established as a memorial to the late Alice M. Van de Verde.

Value: $1,500 (possibility of renewal by re-application/competitive process). Number of awards varies.

Cycle: Annual

Criteria: Academic excellence and professional promise are factors in the selection of recipients. Each scholarship recipient will work cooperatively with a faculty mentor on a research project. Students’ applications must include an essay explaining their proposed research project and how it relates to their career goals, and two supporting letters – one of which must be from the faculty sponsor in whose laboratory the student will plan to carry-out the research project. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility: Undergraduate students who are majoring in a College of Science discipline not graduating before May 2008.

Selection Process: Selection of recipients is on a competitive basis. The Dean, with the advice of the College of Science Scholarship Committee, names recipients. Applications and all attachments will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee for review.

Notification: All applicants will be notified of outcome by mid-May.

Due Date: March 31, 2007. Send or deliver the original and 5 copies of the application form and attachments to:
